Established in 2026 by Keelan Dempsey and his partner Katie, Green Acres Stud operates alongside Keelan Dempsey Racing, providing a dedicated service for breeders, mares and young thoroughbreds.
The stud was created to complement the racing operation and provide professional, hands-on care across different stages of the thoroughbred’s life — from foaling and mare care through to young-stock management and sales preparation.
With Keelan’s background in breeding, bloodstock, pinhooking and racing in Ireland, Kentucky and Australia, Green Acres Stud combines international industry experience with the individual attention of a smaller, personal operation.
Our aim is simple: to provide owners and breeders with high-quality care, close attention to detail and direct communication throughout every stage of their horse’s stay with us.
Foaling & Mare Care
At Green Acres Stud, we provide professional foaling and mare-care services with close attention to both mare and foal throughout the foaling period.
Mares are monitored carefully as they approach their due date, with the aim of ensuring that any signs of impending foaling are identified early and that assistance can be provided where required.
Foaling
Each mare is managed individually in the lead-up to foaling, with close observation as she approaches her expected date.
Following foaling, attention is given to the immediate wellbeing of both mare and foal, including monitoring the foal’s early progress and ensuring that both are settled and comfortable.
Where veterinary attention is required, owners are contacted and appropriate care can be arranged promptly.
Mare & Foal care
Following foaling, mares and foals receive continued hands-on monitoring and daily care, with particular attention paid to feeding, condition, behaviour and general wellbeing.
Our aim is to provide owners with peace of mind during an important stage of the breeding season, while keeping them informed throughout their mare’s stay with us.
Youngstock & Thoroughbred Care
Green Acres Stud provides individual care and management for foals, weanlings and young thoroughbreds, with an emphasis on good handling, sound development and preparing horses properly for the next stage of their lives.
Each horse is managed according to its age, temperament and individual requirements, with attention paid to nutrition, condition, behaviour, handling and overall wellbeing.
Foals & Weanlings
Young horses benefit from calm, consistent handling from an early stage. Our aim is to help produce horses that are confident, manageable and well prepared for future sales, breaking or further development.
Ongoing Young Stock Care
We can also accommodate young thoroughbreds requiring a period of boarding, preparation or individual management before moving on to sales preparation, breaking or pre-training.
The focus throughout is on providing a safe, professional and hands-on environment in which young horses can develop physically and mentally.
Sales Preparation
Green Acres Stud provides professional preparation for weanlings, yearlings and store horses, with each horse prepared according to its age, condition and the requirements of the individual sale.
Our programmes focus on presenting horses at their best through careful attention to condition, handling, manners, walking, turnout and overall presentation.
Keelan’s background in bloodstock and pinhooking, including his experience with Ormonde Bloodstock in Australia, provides a practical understanding of the commercial sales environment and what buyers look for in a young thoroughbred.
Weanlings & Yearlings
Young horses are handled progressively and consistently, with particular attention paid to producing horses that are confident, well mannered and straightforward to present.
Their preparation is managed with the aim of having them arrive at the sale in suitable condition while maintaining their overall wellbeing and development.
Store Horses
Store horses can also be prepared for sale, with programmes tailored around their maturity, condition and the demands of the individual sale.
Our aim is to present each horse professionally, confidently and to the best of its potential when it enters the sales environment.
Our Experience
Green Acres Stud benefits from Keelan’s broad experience across breeding, bloodstock, racing and young-horse development in Ireland, the United States and Australia.
Keelan spent time working at Dell Ridge Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, before later spending seven years in Australia, where his experience included working with Newgate Farm and racehorse trainer Archie Alexander.
While in Australia, Keelan also helped establish Ormonde Bloodstock, purchasing, pinhooking and racing thoroughbreds. This provided valuable practical experience in assessing young horses, preparing them for sale and managing them through the different stages of their development.
That background now forms an important part of the approach at Green Acres Stud, combining commercial bloodstock experience with hands-on horse care and an understanding of what young thoroughbreds need to progress successfully to the next stage of their careers.
Together with Katie, Green Acres Stud aims to provide breeders and owners with a personal, professional service and direct communication throughout their horse’s stay.
